A lot of renovation work has been underway since the last post. The joy of working with an older building is keeping its unique character (and quirks!) while modernizing for our purposes. Several large projects were completed in later October through the end of November. Let’s take a peek!
Floors
We had previously torn up the older concrete to improve drain and sewer lines, and add floor drains and other plumbing that would make life possible as a brewery. First, we needed to get a few areas level so spills and cleaning water would actually end up in the, well, actual drains:
Once the concrete was taken care of, it was time to protect and coat the entire space’s floor. We wanted to use an epoxy and urethane combo to maximize chemical spill and traffic resistance and add non-slip additives to keep everyone safe. The older concrete still had patches of the 1940’s coloring in various places that our grinding and sanding didn’t completely remove, so we decided to lean in to the color scheme of tile red like the original. Some might call it “blood red” considering the history of the building, hmm? Coincidentally, the color is nearly a match for our logo red color, so we are happy with it.
Walls
You may have noticed in the floor section that we have completed a lot of framing of the bathroom and office areas. Here are a few closeups. The main framing is around the new ADA bathroom suite which will be double stalled for the Women’s Room and single stall plus urinal for Men’s.
Paint
While it is late in the Fall, we still have good weather, so tackled cleaning, preparing, and painting the building exterior using our warm off-white base (“Cottage White), and dark brown trim (“Espresso Beans”):
The building takes on a dramatically fresh appearance with the paint job.
We are now shifting focus to the inside. Should we get some good weather, we’ll finish some external clean up painting, install our lights and HVAC, and finalize the red roof canopy in December!
